Day Six: My Views on Mainstream Music

Well, what is “Mainstream” music, like z100? Top 40? I really enjoy music, it lifts you up when you need a boost, it inspires you when youre feeling drained and it pumps you up when you need some rockin in your sockin. BUT lately, as I age, I think back to the “olden” days of my classic music. Music hasn’t changed thattt much, soo I do enjoy most new jams.

My biggest problem with mainstream music is the radio stations OVER PLAYING great songs. I loved Bruno Mars, I think he is fantastic but I shriek when I hear a song of his on the radio because I am SOOOO sick and tired of hearing them over and over and over again, within the same hour. This goes for most songs that I like, they over do it. Like PLAY SOMETHING ELSE, put something new into the rotation, or something old. Like Aqua “Barbie Girl” throw that into the mix sometimes. I don’t like when the stations play like old Lady Gaga, like, I am sick of her, she doesn’t make new music, I don’t want to listen to her old tired music, its like wearing an old dingy outfit, it used to fit great, I had some great times in it, I used to love it, but it belongs in the closet. MAKE NEW MUSIC LADY GAGA you’re becoming irrelevant.

That being said, I have really enjoyed listening to Macklemore’s “Thrift Shop” I think it is a really fun jam. I love me some Nicki Minaj I think her rhymes are really clever and funny, I know people accuse her of not being able to sing or make music, but I beg to differ. The techno dance music I am enjoying. I have to say I don’t really get all these new boy bands One Direction or whatever, Justin Beiber or Justin Timberlake (who should have stayed retired) That is not really fair, I have only heard one song from Justin and I just really didn’t like it, I turn it off whenever I hear it. But the boy bands with their catchy jams, the music is good but its disposable, I am not going to care about these songs in a few years. And I guess that’s ok because I can’t imagine kids today really give a hoot about The Spice Girls or 98 degrees. “Call Me Maybe” was catchy and clever and I loved every second of it.

I have been trying to buy and listen to more music, most recently I bought Mumford and Sons. I did like a few songs, but I felt like most of them all sounded alike, and the tone was a little too somber for me, but maybe that’s just because I have been uppity lately. I also purchased Phillip Phillips, and I rather quite enjoyed it. Bruno Mars I loved but all his songs are now overplayed, and it was a very short CD.

New paragraph for my girl, CHRISTINA AGUILERA. I have loved her since “Stripped” came out, that CD changed my life. I was young, in high school going through normal teenager BS and her album helped me to keep my head up and fight through bad times. It was amazing. And also a good workout CD. But, then she had, “Back to Basics” which was ok, but I really didn’t eat it up as much as “Stripped” and then came, “BIONIC” which to me, was not good. I have a theory that when celebrities have babies they lose all their talent, soo this was right after the birth of Max, and I think she just lost her shit for a CD. I mean there were some good jams, but mostly no. And now there is “Lotus” and I am happy to say, My girl is BACK! She has her usual fighter jams for uplift, and her sexy jams for domination and her ballads to show that she still got it! I absolutely really enjoy Lotus and I am sooo happy she redeemed herself in my eyes.

And I’ll always have a place in my heart for Savage Garden.
